The training followed on from Morganstone’s recent defibrillator donation to the bowls club as part of our community engagement plans for our Mill Street site for Pobl.
The defibrillator will be for the use of the whole community who will have access to it in the event of an emergency.
The session began with an introduction by Pete from Welsh Hearts and was followed on by some basic CPR training. Soon after, attendees were taught how to use the new defibrillator.
Andy Elias, a representative from the Bowls Club, highlighted the importance of the session, ‘Although we hope we will never have need for this (defibrillator) at the club, if it is only used once then it’s value will have proved priceless.
‘…Once again, my thanks to all that contributed to morning session and to Nia Collard for her hard work in making sure the day was arranged and securing the funding for the defibrillator.’
Nia Collard, Community Engagement Manager for Morganstone, added, ‘It’s important that we leave positive legacies within the areas in which we work. It was a pleasure to be able to donate the defibrillator to Pontymister, a local club at the heart of Risca’s community and arrange a training session with Welsh Hearts.’
Cllr Lisa Phipps, Cabinet Member for Homes and Places said, “I am very pleased at how well the defibrillator was received. Hopefully the training provided will never need to be implemented however, knowledge such as this is invaluable due to the impact it could have on a person’s health and wellbeing.”
